Commit to a First, first.

Every single student has their own intellectual habits, ones that make and ones that break. The challenge is often that these patterns are difficult to identify from within your own work. When you are immersed in an essay, it can be hard to see the unconscious decisions or recurring issues which stick out like a sore thumb to a marker.

That’s why I offer one-on-one academic development sessions for prospective and current English Literature university students who want to better understand their own writing and learn how to refine their approach. These sessions are built around your work and your feedback. What does ‘improve your structure’ or ‘engage more critically’ actually mean? Without understanding which direction these comments point, it can be difficult to know what to change. Through analysing previous essays, examining comments from markers, identifying recurring strengths and weaknesses and developing a practical strategic plan, we can identify the habits that are helping your work succeed, and the patterns that are limiting your results.

If you are serious about committing to the highest standard of work you are capable of, now is the time to begin. Spaces are limited and availability is intentionally small to ensure each student receives the time and attention required. Do not wait until the night before your next deadline to invest in your development. Commit to your future. Commit to your progress. Commit to a First, first.
