Who is Robin Reinders?
Robin Reinders is an MA student in English Literary Studies at the University of Durham. Her academic research foci centre on archival, epistolographical and Tolkienian scholarship, including sustained engagement with the TCBS as a formative intellectual and intimate fellowship shaped by war, education and artistic exchange. Her broader scholarly interests encompass the cultural legacy of the Great War; fellowship and homosociality; myth, memory and mourning; anthropological and biblical understandings of community and collaboration; conceptualisations of masculinity; traumatogenic, affective and intimacy studies; and the influence of educational, social and intellectual environments on the early formation of authorial ethos. She is drawn to interdisciplinary methodologies, archival and epistolographic inquiry and research questions of how trauma as well as camaraderie and collectivity serve as structuring forces in young imaginations.
Robin has presented her ongoing research at the Oxford English Graduate Conference and has two academic papers forthcoming in Mallorn: The Journal of the Tolkien Society. She is also, at present, involved in two collaborative, interdisciplinary research projects, which aim to produce an academic article and a chapter in an edited collection, respectively. Her next presentation on her MA dissertation, ‘“Good to fight or to love beside”: Peripheral Poets on Soldierly Intimacy in the Great War’, is scheduled for the University of Durham’s Postgraduate Research Symposium in May 2027. Her self-founded academic counselling service - Commit to a First, first - teaches undergraduate university students the independent study skills and habits required for pursuing a First Class achievement.
Alongside her academic work, she brings substantial editorial leadership experience across cultural journalism. She currently manages two self-founded newsletters: My Own Private Picturehouse, where she produces long-form film and culture criticism, and RUDDOCK, where she documents her academic research progress. She served as Commercial Director and feature writer for Wayzgoose Magazine as well as Contributing Editor at THREAD in partnership with DUCFS, Europe’s largest student charity, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Chrysalis, Revival Charity Fashion Show’s physical art and culture zine. She has led editorial teams and overseen the launch of both print and digital issues. You can find other journalistic work of hers in Critick Magazine, Palatinate and The Tab, among others. She publishes occasional creative writing at REINDERSIAN.
